A Practical Guide to Running Groups

by Dr Debra Bekerian

6th and 7th, 13th and 14th October

Saturdays 10am to 5pm, Sundays 9am to 4pm.

Cambridgeshire Police Shrievalty Trust, 154 North Gate, Alconbury Airfield, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, PE28 4WX

24 Hours CPD

£250 including lunch and refreshments

Group work is one of the most versatile formats available to clinicians, counsellors and therapists. Groups can serve a wide range of functions. They can operate in a therapeutic fashion, as when individuals share a common life-difficulty, like support groups for addictions. Groups can also be a powerful way of addressing personal issues that arise within professional contexts, like personal development groups or team facilitation.

This course provides a practical guide for running groups, by introducing the basic requirements for successful group work. It instructs participants on the theoretical principles underlying groups, from psychological, analytic and humanistic perspectives, and gives participants the opportunity to develop and enhance practical skills. Participants will learn about different types of group work, e.g., short term versus long term, as well as the different issues that group work can address.

For more information about the workshop or to book a place, please contact Catherine Callow (01780 762450).
